Queermance: Now coming November 2016

Grand Prix

You may have already noticed the change to the front page, but we wanted to make an official announcement. The Australian Grand Prix has shifted its dates and is now running the dates we’d originally planned to hold Queermance in March. This is making everything really unaffordable and we don’t want to raise our ticket prices after just managing to drop them. We also don’t like what the hotels would be charging our interstate guests or any Victorians who wish to stay in the city over the festival weekend.

So we’re pushing it back to November, which is a lot further than originally intended, mostly in an attempt to avoid the cold Melbourne winter. So we’re now running November 19th and 20th, and we hope you’ll still join us. Our intended program may shift slightly as a result, but we’ll be confirming as much of that as far ahead of time as we can, so stay tuned for updates on that.

On behalf of the Queermance Committee, thanks for your patience and understanding, and we hope to see you all in November.

Princess: Musician

Princess2

Princess is an Entertainer, Singer/Songwriter, Musician and all round Fashionista! With a great eye for detail he takes the best of Men’s fashion and the best of Women’s accessories for a unique and fashion forward statement about blurring the gender lines in Fashion. Fortunately Princess is well versed at walking his heels, recieveing his first pair of stacked heels as a child (as was the fashion of the day) and now regularly adds a minimum of 5inches to his height! Show stopping Polished Nails that reflect his sparkle and love for the alternative is a trademark of his look.

Princess is not only about Fashion. He also is an accomplished Singer and Musician, studying Singing at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide. He began playing piano at the age of 6 and regularly performs around Melbourne as a backing Vocalist and Musician. He also records with a Triple J Unearthed Artist with content on iTunes, Spotify & Soundcloud.

However if this isn’t enough, Princess’ love of Makeup has added the glitter and sparkle to his polished look. As a MAC-Pro makeup artist Princess has created a look that has been compared to Kardshian inspired polished perfection!
Combine all of these elements, and you have Princess. Unique, polished, high heel wearing fun that is frightfully entertaining!

Princess is appearing at Queer Identities – Midsumma Edition.

Queermance Festival Early Bird Tickets Now Available

Queermance-Header

Tickets for Queermance 2016 are now live. We’re still locking in the program (so far it’s looking amazing), and finalising food options for you lovely people, but we’re putting up our early bird tickets now so that you can start looking at dates–so these ticket prices will go up once things are finalised, but for now, Adult Tickets are $130 and Concession Tickets are $80. That’s a significant drop in price from last year, and we hope to keep it that way. We won’t be providing lunches on Saturday and Sunday anymore, but the ticket cost will include morning and afternoon tea and a meet and greet with finger foods on Friday the 18th of March.

The Queermance Festival will run from the 18th to the 20th of March and will include a Queer Identities panel with a range of new people from the community for you to meet, and Everyday Queer panel about real life people and allies doing extraordinary things, and workshops on Writing Erotica and Shibari (Japanese Rope Bondage).

We look forward to seeing you all at Midsumma, and at the Festival itself.

Queermance @ Carnival

CARNIVAL1-600w

Queermance will have a presence at the 2016 Midsumma Carnival. I repeat, Queermance will have a presence at the 2016 Midsumma Carnival. Somewhere in the sea of white tents will be a small oasis of shade, calm and books. We don’t know where yet, but now that it’s been announced, we can’t back out. So here it is – when you find us, please come into our tent, chill out on our beanbags, and borrow a book from our little library of queer fiction. We will also have books for sale if you decide you like one.

So come join us on Carnival Day, Sunday the 17th of January and take a break from the sun and chill out for a bit with a good book.

If you’re an author and would like to have your book sold at our Midsumma Stall or stocked in our Library, please contact us at info@queermance.com.au, if there’s any excess stock, we’re also happy to carry them over to the festival proper.

Submissions now open for Queermance Anthology 2016

Rainbow-Q2

It’s been a while–but yes, Queermance is back and planning for 2016 is happening in earnest. We have a lot of plans for the future, some of which aren’t ready to be talked about, but right now, please sharpen your pencils, grab your favourite pen or charge your electronic device of choice and start writing – because Submissions for Queermance Volume III are now open.

This year we’re looking for the best Oceanic Queer short stories:

Submission Criteria:

  • Between 3000-5000 words in length
  • Showcase one or more queer relationships
  • Have a strong sense of character or strong sense of place that fits with Oceania.
    • For the purposes of this Anthology, we’re defining Oceania as Australia, New Zealand, Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia and Southeast Asia.
  • Stories will be paid with a flat fee of $25 Australian Dollars per story.
  • Submissions are open to all authors regardless of geographical location, gender identity or sexuality.
  • Please send all stories to submissions@queermance.com.au in .docx .rtf .doc or .pdf format.
  • Submissions close midnight Saturday the 30th of January.

This means you can have a story about an Australian in New York, or about two queer aliens crash landing in Singapore or the Solomon Islands as long as the place shines through.

If you’d like to see what we’ve published before, please check out Queermance Vol I, and Queermance Vol II, available as ebooks from Clan Destine Press.
