Publishers, as the world knows, have long lunches, lazily spend time with their feet up reading through amazing books which people send them for free and jealously guard the gates of publishing from amazing aspiring writing talent who have at least one amazing book in them.

Publishers, as anyone in the industry knows, have found that the days of long lunches are over, that it’s harder to get talent noticed in an increasingly crowded marketplace, and wading through the ever growing slush pile in the hope of finding the next gem is both a draining and exhausting prospect. And please don’t mention delicate writer egos.

Following the success of last year’s Meet the Publishers Panel, we’re bringing along more publishers and giving you all a chance to meet, mingle chat and maybe even pitch a story or two over tea, coffee and nibbles on a casual Sunday afternoon. Book your ticket now for this limited entry event or grab a festival pass and come and meet publishers and editors from Clan Destine Press, MidnightSun Publishing, eXtasy Books, Little Raven, Fireborn Publishing, Dreamspinner Press, Wayward Ink Press, Stein & Wilde Publishing, Dark Matter Zine and Writing from Below Journal.

More Events? Sure

Q Tile

So if you’ve been paying attention to our program page, you’ll have noticed we’ve been switching around panels, as well as playing with times as we try to organise the best possible line up of events for you. We’re very excited that were able to bring back both of last year’s stand out evening events–the Queermance Anthology Launch and the Queerbaret, but we’re also very pleased to be bringing you an Author Showcase of some of the biggest local and interstate authors at Queermance 2015, including a very special international guest. Who is it? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see!

We’re also bringing you a fifth panel, which we weren’t expecting, and we’re going to be celebrating some of the amazing art that we use to support our stories, whether that’s digital art, painted media, or amazing photography. We’ll be bringing you a selection of the amazing work in our community soon, and there may be the chance to walk away with a print or two.

Given our late morning start, we’ll be providing two meals rather than three — lunch and afternoon tea–and turning the afternoon teas into social events where you’ll be able to come and meet the Queermance Authors and an even bigger range of publishers than we had last year. We’ve currently confirmed Clan Destine Press, Dreamspinner Press, MidnightSun Publishing, Firebrand Publishing and EXtasy Books and we’re in discussion with a few other publishers about having a presence at Queermance this year.

And no, we’re not increasing our ticket price. So if you’d like to get a festival pass, day pass, or book yourself in to just the Meet the Authors or Meet the Publishers Afternoon Tea, book in before we sell out. We’ll be releasing single session tickets to our panels and workshops shortly, so stay tuned for more info.

The story behind Dreamspinner starts in summer 2006. Elizabeth North officiated her brother-in-law’s wedding to the man of his dreams. Later that weekend she happened upon her brother-in-law reading a Harlequin romance while lounging next to the pool. When Elizabeth asked about it his reply was simple: “They don’t write romances for people like me.” He’d been through the struggles and dark times, and emerged on the other side to live happily ever after. He wanted to read those stories. While visiting a group of close friends she made an offhand comment that someone should start a publishing company that specialized in gay romantic fiction, focusing on treating the authors well and producing quality books. That group of friends stayed up most of the night and the result was Dreamspinner Press.

Dreamspinner Press is an international full-service publisher of gay romance based in the United States of America. We publish stories from 3,500 words and up in several genre categories and eBook formats, as well as audiobooks and translations in four major world languages. Novels of 60,000+ words are published simultaneously in paperback. In seven years, Dreamspinner has built a catalog of well over than 2,000 titles written by more than 500 authors from six continents. The Press now operates three imprints: Dreamspinner Press, specializing in gay romance; Harmony Ink Press, devoted to LGBTQ+ Teen and New Adult fiction; and DSP Publications, a boutique publisher of specialty genre fiction. Dreamspinnerpress.com has almost 30,000 registered users.

Our business plan is not to be everything for everyone, but to consistently produce quality gay romance diverse enough to be entertaining. We do our best to provide every customer and every author the best experience possible.
